About Us

Wu Wei Gung Fu is a modern Kung Fu system, based on the teachings of Bruce Lee.

Its founder, Professor Joseph Cowles, named it after a philosophical concept highly cherished by his late teacher: Wu Wei, The Spontaneous Movement. It is taught and practiced as a tool for self defence in real-life situations – yet, being a martial art, it is also a means of self knowledge and self improvement.

Prof. Cowles used the knowledge he received from his teacher, and combined it with elements of western boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, Aiki Jitsu, Muai Thai, Kali and Sambo, as well as insights from other Kung Fu systems.

Wu Wei Gung Fu is thus a "complete martial art", a self-defense system whose practitioners specialize in hand strikes, kicks, locks, bars and ground work.

Alongside face-to-face combat techniques, our training includes physical and mental conditioning, as well as the use of cold weapons and the knowledge of defending ourselves against assailers armed with such weapons.

We take special pride in our training regime and in our ability to bring each and every practitioner to the peak of his or her abilities.

The current head of the system is Si-Jo Eyal Koren, Cowles’ student, who brought it to Israel more than twenty years ago, and is perfecting and developing it ever since.
